She certainly did - being so sick meant she had to stop 'fussing' and cope with what she could when she could. Good lesson for her - pity her parents hadn't taught her that instead of giving her so much responsibility so early. I found it a fairly bad example of parenting to make her responsible for everything on their rail journeys when there was a mother AND a nanny. Can't help comparing this with the effective multitasking most mothers do nowdays without any other help - certainly not that sort from a twelve year old.
