Those were the days! It would be difficult to become a communist by reading in the public library in my town right now. No sign of Marx, nor any other philosopher or thinker worth speaking of, except for the ones that sell books, like Hawking and Dawkins. It's mostly popular fiction, lots of coffee-table art books, travel, and wall-to-wall gardening and cooking. And, in case you ask, I have looked at the children's section and there's no Ransome. This library serves a town of about 60,000 people. Oh dear.
