The Los Angeles County Fair gets a lot of mileage out of the idea of farm animals in a big city. Certainly the fun fair aspect is paramount, not to mention the many different and weird foods on a stick (deep-fried Snickers, anyone?), but there are plenty of animals and animal competitions for those who are interested. Last year, I spent an hour watching driving horse demonstrations- a fascinating sport.
