I suppose in western democratic societies we have to accept that someone owns whatever land we encounter, now there are many rights and wrongs to be considered here but as a general rule ownership has to be respected. I find it interesting that so many people seem to regard the 'countryside' (and I include beaches here) as something without ownership that is available for all as some kind of playground. Hence my back garden example.
