So what? I've wondered what in the world the GA could have done to the postman, the driver, the doctor, the cook et cetera. They all could / should have told her to kiss off.
On the other hand, the chores she assigned to Ruth and Margaret were just that, chores. (I drove a big tractor for eight hours a day when I was 13.) It would have been good for them to do some work around the house.
