Here's a hypothetical example that might help to make it clear.

Mr A says "I'm going to kiss my wife when I get home."

Mr B mishears this as "I'm going to kill my wife when I get home".

Mr B protests.

Mr A explains what he really meant.

Mr B is glad the meaning isn't what it seemed to him. He's pleased that he got it wrong.
