I found the S&A books in my local branch library (Silver Spring, Maryland) in the early 1950s. In the children's section of course - being about 10 at the time I couldn't go into the adult section anyhow. The initial attraction for me which caused me to take them off the shelf and look at them, as for so many others, was the wonderful dust jackets.
