The boundaries of parental responsibility

Laura Dekker wants to break a world record for the youngest solo
world circumnavigation, currently held by a 17-year-old American.
Her parents supported her. But she is only 13, and the Dutch child
protection agencies have applied to the courts to suspend parental
custody to prevent the voyage going ahead.

I wonder what other TarBoarders think - in cases such as this who
should have the last word - the parents or the courts?
