Mike, I don't know if it is the same Brian Hammett, but the one that I am familiar with is a pillar of the Cruising Association and the Old Gaffers Association. I think that might be what you are thinking of.

"Racundra" herself is familiar to many yachtsmen as "Annette 2", in the first chapter of the earlier editions of Adlard Coles's "Heavy Weather Sailing"; this is now a later chapter (and almost the only surviving section of the older editions) in the 5th Edition. Adlard Coles re-named the boat, which he bought from AR in Latvia, because AR had already written about her and he wanted to avoid confusion.

She was spotted in the Mediterranean, a few years ago, but seems to have disappeared again.
