Dicksīs mechanism for the pigeon alarm

During a rereading of Pigeon Post I have made a reflection that Nancy might have made a mistake when she illustrated Dickīs invention. (Page 71, 23:rd impression)

As far as I can see, the hook is bent the wrong way. When the Pigeon trotts inside, the gate will not grip the hook. Even if the hook was fixed to the gate it wonīt work as, when the gate falls back, the gate will also push the cork with the wire back, so there will be no contact and no bell.

If it was bent the other ways (as Iīm sure the Professor did it) the mechanism should work properly. Even the lead git (I donīt know exactly what a git is, something like a little ball ?) is great. Without that, the circuting wire might sometimes have got in contact with only one of the brass strips.

Anyone else thought of that? You may think it is a detail, but remember that Tysonīs farm would have been burnt to ash without the SOS-message and the help of Jolyīs boys.
