Yes, Dan V makes a good point. I've looked up the word 'snide' and it is defined as 'insinuating' or 'slyly derogatory'. Perhaps we should remember that Susan, when the adventures start, is a ten year old child, who carries the burden of bringing back her siblings in one piece. Yes, there are 'negative' aspects to her character, as Prue Eckett says, but these must be put in context. Could any of us, and could Ms Eckett, have behaved in such a mature way when we were ten?

I honestly believe that as an adult reading AR's books, once you start 'taking sides' with regard to his characters, you've lost it.
