I wouldn't bother with Kindle on principle as I object to Amazon's overly-paranoid protection of its files.
Don't you think that maybe they have to do this as part of their contractual relationship with their content providers?
Amazon are the biggest fish in the pond and, quite rightly, authors and publishers will be watching what they do like hawks.
If hawks have royalties, of course.
