The Swallows and Amazons don't seem to read fairy tales. There is a mention in SD that Roger feels his injured ankle feels like walking on knives- like the little mermaid. Also in SD is the obeah story that Titty uses to make her voodoo doll. I don't recall any others. The books they do read are based in the real world.
Is this AR's way of showing that they see their adventures as reality, or were there fewer readers of fairy tales back in the pre-Disney days. (Hey, maybe the Brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Anderson could sue Walt Disney for defamation of characters!)
