Jim Brading smokes a pipe in WD and John looks on with admiration. This is I think the only link between the Swallows and smoking. The Swallows, Amazons and Coots are too young to smoke. Captain Flint smokes a pipe. The owner of the Bonnka smokes a pipe as he feeds Joe's rat in CN. In real life, AR smoked a pipe and there's a photo of a young Evgenia smoking a pipe in Brogan's Biography.
I wonder if Prue has Nancy smoking cigarettes in her Swallows and Amazons at War?
