Doesn't Manchester get its drinking water from Windermere? Come to think of it most towns along the Thames extract their drinking water from the Thames and also dump their sewage into the river. A touch of Aldermaston run off is added near Pangbourne and then the resultant brew is drunk by most of London.

Yes I know it's treated before it's pumped through people's taps, but I guess the treatment with chlorine is equivalent to a minute's vigorous boiling. I use the stuff every day to make my tea in the UK with no(?) ill effects.
