William in CC who sat on the weighing machine
Maybe I really meant Dorothea, who "would Never be Without a Friend". Hmm - on TarBoard???;-) Hurrying quickly on . . .
I was envisaging software of a much greater sophistication than the "whirring of wheels" inside the mechanical Potter Heigham weighing machine. The TarBoard Reaction facility would analyse your proposed posting by reference to its TarBoard archive, and in particular with reference to the words you use, the words you have used before, and previous reactions. It would offer 3 options: (1) "Yes, sounds cool, and you might get one or two supporting follow-ups"; (2) "Weeell OK, but you'll probably get a deafening silence"; (3) DON'T, or you'll have 3 weeks of purgatory! (It would also be handy if there was a 'FIX' button to render your posting acceptable.)
BTW, talking of William and because it is Easter, some chocolate queries: is it really OK for a small dog to be given "half a pound of plain chocolate" with probably 70% cocoa content?
And what about this exchange:-
I interpret "Doesn't he?" as meaning " he certainly does!", but has this expression ever puzzled any non-British reader?
