I am not sure that I share in the rejoicing at the news that the TARS membership list is available to the public. As Canadian coordinator, I publish a list of our members, but only of those who give me permission to do so -- and I undertake that the list will only be made available to other TARS members. Several decline to give permission; some allow their names and addresses but not telephone numbers. Some do not wish details of junior members to be made public. Now I have to tell them that anyone can buy this information whether they like it or not. Probably no-one over this side of the Atlantic would bother: some members might otherwise prefer to leave the Society, as they obviously prize their privacy.
