From what I discovered when producing my map (not yet complete, I regret to say,) Secret Water is indeed actually bigger than it used to be -- that is to say, the water part is bigger. But there is correspondingly less land. Several dykes have been broken in the years since the Swallows produced their map, and they haven't all been replaced. And in common with much of the East Coast, the land has apparently continued to sink a bit, too. The result -- less land, more water.

There is of course one major difference apart from this, which is the imaginary addition to Secret Water of Sinbad's Creek, for which there is no prototype in the Backwaters themselves
