I don't think the American drop "cookie" is the same as a rock cake. The batter for the forner is dropped from a wooden spoon on to a cookie sheet where it spreads out slightly since it is moister than the mixture for a rock cake. The word "scone" is practically unknown in America, better known in Canada. Americans call scones biscuits.
