I love the bit where the chap says that it doesn't require brains! From the sound of it an absence of little grey cells would seem to be an advantage.
As I understand it, [and I'm open to correction if I'm wrong] guddling is a much more skilled and gentle pursuit. It involves sneaking up on a trout and tickling or stroking his belly. This entrances or hypnotises the fish, so that it can then be gently lifted from the river without being aware of it.
