Now it is not my website and it is not for me to define 'appropriateness' but I wonder if Ian E-N is OK about these extremely wide parameters?

Surely this is the kind of situation in which to rely on the very best aspect of the Net, which is self-policing? Ian appears to favour light touch regulation, and if that's true I'd support him all the way.

If things get out of hand, and many Tarboardistas are made unhappy by it (which I don't honestly think has happened just now) then it's time for Ian to intervene, as he he also does from time to time to cool things down when the discussions get excessively libellous or bitter. But otherwise, it seems to me that it's up to the users themselves to make their feelings clear, preferably in temperate terms. There are few posters who are insensitive to the feelings of others. And if such posters do appear than SHAZAM! It's for magic lighting and Ian...

(Anybody who doesn't understand those references is either too young, or insufficiently frivolous. Both serious crimes in my book, although youth is, of course, curable.)
