I enjoy Secret Water, the gradual filling in of the map really shows a sense of progress and accomplishment. The intricate navigation of the Straits of Magellan reminds me of The Riddle of the Sands a bit, though without the fog.
The annoyance and disappointment of John when he realises that Nancy hasd neglected to complete the proper surveying to play war games is balanced by Nancy and Titty leading their early morning expeditions.
The Mastodon's happy acceptance of the marooned explorers followed by his receipt of Daisy's instructions and the conflict that he feels all show to me a fine example of a book with a good many twists and turns but still all quite believable and logical. I don't get any feeling of lack of completeness there at all.
