The question that is burning inside me is - "Does this mean that JN has almost finished with the woodwork part and is about to paint this boat?"
And although this observation may offend Jock and Peter H or either of them or someone else, it seems to me that in building his boat, wanting to climb the Old Man etc, John is doing or aspiring to something that AR has inspired (directly or indirectly). That seems to me to be more than enough to qualify Mary Anne or his AR fantasies as suitable subjects for this discussion board, since a piece of writing has its continuing life not in the hands of its author but in the lives of its readers and what it leads them to think and do.
