A couple of weeks ago I managed to get hold of my own brand-new copy of “Coots In The North”. What a fantastic book! I’ve been rationing myself and haven’t read it all yet – but I have read the CITN partial story. And I love it – and how I wish AR had finished it.

The first thing that struck me is that Joe, Pete and Bill always refer to their fathers as “dad”. All the S, A & D’s say “father” or “daddy”. Now this is evident without reading CITN, the same trend is there throughout all the previous 12 books. Is it yet another indication of the dreaded class system? And am I wrong - is the trend bucked anywhere – I really can’t imagine John or Susan calling their father “dad” at all.
