Hmmm....sorry to shoot a hole in the "I once had a boat" theory--but I never had a boat. Nor really got to spend time in anyone else's except rubber inflatable rafts, which are only loosley categorized as "boats" because they float. I did read AR's books like carzy, and I thoguth I could sail, if I ever got a chance. And I have since then, and actually don't care for it all that much (Horrors! Am I allowed to say that on this board?) But, for whatever reason, i do LOVE old boats. There is something about their faded colors, there rounded edges, their old wood worn to softness, that is very appealing. And if I am lucky enough to spy one with a cabin, I immediately have all sorts of pictures of cozy evenings under a lantern, peeking out at the stars above. In fact, one of my nicest evenings was spent visiting a friend in his little sailing boat (now, don't ask me what kind or size--all I remember was that it had a cabin & two snug bunks & a forward cabin that looked really cozy but was probably most comfortable for the height-challenged among us). We talked & sang, there was lantern light & stars, and I didn't need to worry about capsizing because she was docked.... I guess I am a landlubber, but I still love AR's books--especially the descriptions of the campsites!
