Just this on AR-related messages, Peter. I have noticed very often that when the conversation is wandering far, far away from AR annd his manifold works, somehow it always manages to get steered back to the great man sooner or later.

It's rather like brainstorming.

During brainstorming sessions there should therefore be no criticism of ideas: You are trying to open up possibilities and break down wrong assumptions about the limits of the problem. Judgments and analysis at this stage will stunt idea generation.

Not everybody likes the freedom of expression that a brainstorming session encourages, particularly people comfortable in a traditional hierarchical environment. To get the best from such a session a skilled moderator is employed to discourage the put down comments which can ruin the creativity of the process.

So it is with "Beckfoot plumbing", for some of us it conjures up the image of a stopcock, for others a rampump, the GA's flowers, the location of Beckfoot's bathroom, the location of Beckfoot, the identity of Beckfoot, the identity of the Amazons... Me? I'm an engineer at heart. I think of the Ransomes struggling with limited water supplies at Ludderburn and the evident relief in his letter to his mother from The Heald

First-rate water supply for one thing.
