Hmm. Hi Luke, nice to get back to some basic stuff like canvas and hurricane lamps.
Looking at your posts it looks as if you've sorted out the main problem yourself
which is why I hadn't commented earlier. The problem that you discovered with
certain punctuation marks is a combination of two things: how TarBoard displays
'special characters' and what happens if you use an external editor, such as Word,
to write your post. Unless you have the autotext and autoformat facilities switched
off your text editor will try to 'improve' your text so that what you get is not what
you type. For example, the straight quotes that you type (which display OK) can get
corrected to curly quotes (which don't).
Me? I type straight into TarBoard using Firefox as my browser with a UK English
spelling dictionary plug in and make plentiful use of the 'test post' facility.
(I still make dozens of mistakes!) Now there's an interesting quirk in how the 'test
post' facility works (it's best to use your browsers 'back' button before posting),
but perhaps that's enough geeky stuff for today.
