Others have suggested here that the Blacketts/Turners were quite well off,
either from events in previous generations or from the runaway success
of Captain Flint's book (see Swallowdale Chapter 7, where he says that
he keeps getting cheques from the publisher, and a footnote tells us that
his book has been through 8 "editions" (impressions) in its first year).

The idea that the GA had been pestering Molly to re-marry is a most
intriguing novelty, not least because it comes from someone who was
never married herself.
