I have just finished a book by Leslie Thomas, Running Away, in which he describes a house in Norfolk UK as having electricity connected only to the ground floor and that was in 1998. It appears that Beckfoot may not have had mains electricity at that time as there are still houses in the UK with only limited connections to electricity even today.
