The term 'squashed fly biscuits' is not new - it was around in the 1950s and probably long before that, possibly even in the late 19th century. Ed K must always take into account the British passion for irony and black humour. When I was young, the lad next door always referred to tomato ketchup as 'train smash' ('train wreck' to you, Ed).
