Peter, I certainly agree with you that a carefully edited re-issue of J&B would be wonderful. I thought the idea of the book was wonderful but found that I just couldn't read it because the errors kept intruding.
I believe I recall hearing that there were a series of problems and I would guess that to get it out at all, and with no further delay, they simply had to commit to publish.
I have no actual idea if this is true, but I also suspect AP may not have the resources to republish the book, and I'm not sure they could get enough subscriptions to pay for it.
Having said all that, here's another vote for a new edition.
