One problem with a lot of modern movies is you might have half an hour or more screen time for a battle or a chase which is visually spectacular but is perhaps "a sentence or two" of plot development followed by over-edited bits of plot development whereby if you blink you miss it (something that might have taken a page or two to explain in a book). Either that or relatively complex bits of plotting are reduced to something much easier to grasp. Although I love Peter Jackson's Middle Earth adaptations, I occasionally get frustrated for those sorts of editorial decisions there; he also occasionally takes a perfectly simple plot development and turns it into something indecipherably complex, probably again because of devoting too little screen time to properly explain it.
