Lubricant.

Jamestown Distributors sell a lubricant to be used with wood screws. The creosote is a good idea, but all I had to hand was epoxy and being a conservative old engineer and knowing that the boat will fail before the 1 inch keel lets go I thought what the heck and used the epoxy. The epoxy seals the screw from the wood and should help with potential rot problems.

The CG manual seems to prefer white oak for the keel, garboard and wale strakes - for the heavy construction.
