AS you prob. know (or if not, read the various items of the ARS Website), this story is one of the two that are not supposed to be real_life (i.e. written by the Children, presumably)- the other being Peter Duck .
and some wld include Great Northern?
I havent bothered to reread it in 50 years ... the story line is 'precious' and is simply a fantasy on a woman Chinese pre-war pirate (who it seems exists) who has a hankering for her days at Cambridge, and the academic (esp Latin) life. I lack interest in it because it isnt set in the UK with the usual interaction of classes (adult & kids) and locals that are so enjoyable ..
It does have a memorable phrase that is widely used in the extended Truelove family.. "Oxford for marmalade, Cambridge for Latin"
Enjoy!
