the present Ordnance Survey 1:50,000 maps are fairly inexpensive and can be used to follow the events in the books

They can, but 'progress' and the passage of time have obliterated many of the details. The complex knot of railways in Yarmouth has been reduced to just one. Passage through Yarmouth for a sailing boat without a motor is a little different. The present Breydon [road] Bridge is usually down and is not supposed to open during the rush hour.

In the Walton Backwaters, the erosion of the saltings caused by rising sea levels and the reconstruction of the sea walls after the war has changed their shape, but much of the magic remains.

Has anyone any idea where one can find 1930s editions of O.S. maps and Admiralty Charts?
