After visiting WildCat (Peel) Island I think that from the point of veiw of the children in S+A and the illustrations this is probebly the prime inspiration for Wildcat Island with maby bits from other Islands in the other lakes added into one though the landing bay and harbour seem very familiar. Also looking at the chart drawing in swallowdale (which seems to differ from that in S.+A I would say that Shark Bay is based on the bay east of Peel Island. As for the Amazon river/Laggoon I can't compare that to any location on Coniston or Windermere, possibly this is from Ransomes own imagination or maby another lake.
