A very quick look will soon tell you that many locations, if not all
locations in the S & A series arn't precise existing (or existed)
locations, things have been moved about, etc. Arthur like any author
(I love writing that) has merely used what he has known to set the
scenes adapting them to his requirements.
Previous discussions have talked about this location is that location,
ie Wildcat Island is Peel Island but what they havn't said, as far as
I'm aware is that, is that Wildcat Island is based on Peel Island
with these differences, eg Size, area and height. In fact size is a
major difference in any comparison of locations. A fact that I noticed
in particular after visiting Coniston 30 years after reading the,
books, I expected the island and lake to be at least twice the size,
(and inversly Holly Howe to be half!) perhaps this may be a product of
me being at least twice the size as well (:-)
I'll see how this thread progress's because I might start another re
Fact in Fiction and Fiction v Fantasy.
