By coincidence, I was reading 'Signals' (a TARS magazine) this afternoon and I came across a statement that the bed of the Beaulieu River is privately owned. I have to admit that ownership of a river bed does seem a bit tricky. Then I wondered who owned the bed of the Amazon River? Did Beckfoot own it or part of it? It seems that the Beckfoot boathouse projected over the bank, with supports on the river bed, so either the house owned the bed or there may have been some sort of riparian right about this.
(This should keep the Tarboard 'Beckfoot water' fetishists busy for a few years . . .)
