Since I left the U.K. over 50 years ago, there are few things that puzzle me more than "the dreaded class system." As a boy, I remember there was a great difference between the classes but it didn't bother me then, and it doesn't bother me now. Canada has a class system based on wealth and education, and that doesn't bother me either. While it's probably a lot more flexible than the system I remember from England, it is still there. I regard it as more of a protection than a handicap. I think I understand why some people regard it as dreaded, but I certainly would like clarification as to why it is so deaded. I think I remember discussing this before, and being told politely but firmly that it is a very touchy subject in the U.K.
