There is one point noone ever brings up when discussing Dick's (or even John's) 'public' (i.e. private) school, the issue of age. When I went to one of those schools (admittedly fifteen years later than AR characters) I was thirteen or fourteen when I started. Before that age I went to a "preparatory" school as a boarder. That school had its own rugby fifteen and cricket eleven. I don't think AR thought of the protagonists of the S&A books as being old enough to attend Rugby or any other similar school.
