miss-use by the lower middle-class tabloid press

It is not just the tabloid press, I'm afraid. (This is a bit off-topic, but I'll get back to AR eventually.) I have just received a sales leaflet from a well-known chain of stores which sell flat-pack furniture and interior decor items - let's just say their name has 4 letters and begins with 'I'. It is full of pictures of lit candles, holly berries, tinsel stars, gift-wrap accessories etc. These are advertised as ideal for the 'Holiday Celebrations'. It also mentions 'Holiday Dinner' and 'Holiday Decorations'. Half-term? Easter? The word Christmas is not mentioned. This, to my mind, is classic 'PC'. No one would be offended by the word 'Christmas', which is in general use. People of other faiths who do not celebrate Christmas will not be interested in these items anyway. The true idiocy of it all is shown by the website address given: 'www.I***.co.uk/christmastime'. This use of the word 'holiday' is vague and silly (I am talking about the UK here, not the US), and I have also seen 'Winter Holiday' used sometimes. Well, 'WH' only means one thing to me, and I'm back on-topic . . .
