Yes, I would expect there to be a water tank in the loft at Beckfoot. I am not sure why JMN has a query about this, as he is a scientist. At the risk of being 'had', I'll continue. In towns and cities, water flows into roof storage tanks by gravity - ie the reservoir is at a higher level than the houses. In rural areas, you may have to pump the water from the source, ie well or whatever. You still see the vanes of wind-pumps near isolated farm-houses in Britain. Not at Beckfoot, though, I should think - too sheltered. They might have had a 'ram', but surely AR would have mentioned it. I suspect they had a private pipe-linked source up on the fell. John - how do you get your water?
