I tried to look into the Rawdon Smith ownership of the bed of the lake some years ago, with no luck.
What I find fascinating is the idea that the bed of the lake, beyond some short, arbitrary distance out from a shoreline, could belong to anybody other than the County, or some public body. I understand why land can be owned, as a practical incentive to develop it and make it productive, particularly at a time when agriculture was the main occupation of human beings, and the means of their survival, but ownership of the lakebed seems to me to be a weird concept. Although perfectly in line with a rather superannuated concept of property, which is what makes it interesting.
The meanders of 'AR thinking' do bring up some fascinating stuff.
