Previously as an 'outsider' descriptions of Mixed Moss have nearly tempted me to 'come aboard', but to me Peter the latest issue sounds dull and so once again I'll pass.
Why? (And I'm trying to make a serious point here!) To me AR is the twelve books, I've tried reading the others - even the sailing and fishing ones - and given up within a few pages, they are lifeless (dare I say boring?) in comparison. What makes AR a great writer is the twelve, and that is why here we all are discussing him seventy years on just as others will in another seventy years.
AR's skill is what he does in the twelve, and the reason so many of us adults still read them. Can anyone honestly say they read any of his other works as often and with more pleasure than the twelve?
